World Heritage Day Images
We hosted a wonderful, free celebration event at the Guildhall in Bath on Saturday 4 March 2023.
Visitors had the chance to explore 2,000+ years of Bath's spa history, and to find out why Bath is one of the Greatest Spa Towns in Europe.
The date of the event was chosen to coincide with the General Assembly of the Great Spa Towns of Europe World Heritage Site, rounding off a period of celebration and collaborative-working in Bath.
Over 700 people, of all ages, came along to enjoy the guided walks, themed talks, craft activities and displays presented by museums and heritage organisations from across the city. There was a real buzz all day.
There was something for everyone, including soothing hand massages, encounters with Georgian characters from the past, opportunities to see real objects and historical documents, virtual and sensory tours, dressing up, badge designing, Plasticine modelling and bathing-themed crafts.
Four free talks introduced attendees to Bath’s long history as a spa town, and to Bath’s partner spa towns in Europe.
Volunteers from the Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides devised and led special walks around the historic Spa Quarter, covering Bath’s history from Roman bathing through to the 21st century spa.
Bath World Heritage Day is always a partnership event. Thank you to all the organisations and individuals who took part to make the day so special.
