At the Bath World Heritage Centre you can:

Find out more about the city’s attributes of Outstanding Universal Value: the hot springs, Roman remains, Georgian architecture, Georgian town planning, the social setting of the Georgian spa town and the city’s natural landscape setting.
Meet the Bath World Heritage Centre staff and volunteers who will give you more information on the amazing history and heritage of Bath.

The Centre is free to enter and features a host of interactive exhibits and displays designed to inspire, excite and inform. There are also free walking trails and guides to help visitors to the city explore all it has to offer.

Opening times

The Bath World Heritage Centre is open daily from 10am–5pm.

We are closed on 25 and 26 December.

Getting here

The Bath World Heritage centre is located in the centre of Bath in the West of England. Bath is 100 miles (160km) west of London and 10 miles (16km) east of Bristol. Bath has good coach and rail connections from London and from most major cities in the UK. It is a delightful city to explore on foot. Find out more on parking and travel options in Bath.

Please note: Bath operates a charging clean air zone (CAZ) in the city centre. Not all vehicles are charged. To check if charges apply to your vehicle, please visit the government website.

Bus or coach

National Express operates a regular bus service from London Victoria, Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The dropping-off point is at the bus station, five minutes walk from the Roman Baths.

Clean air zone charges apply to higher emission buses and coaches (pre-euro 6/VI diesel and pre-euro 4/IV petrol). To check your vehicle and pay possible zone charges, visit the government website.

By train

Bath is an excellent city to visit by rail. The station is called Bath Spa. There are frequent high-speed connections to London Paddington. For a slower and cheaper service try London Waterloo. The Bath World Heritage Centre is less than ten minutes walk from the station.

By bicycle

Bath is on the Sustrans National Cycle Route 4, which runs east-west through Bath, connecting Reading to Bristol. The immensely popular Bristol – Bath Railway Path provides a tranquil walking and cycling path between the two cities. There is also good access from the south through the new Bath Two Tunnels Circuit, Route 244. There is helpful advice on the Sustrans website.

On foot

Bath is well suited to pedestrians. Most hotels and guest houses are within easy reach of the city centre. The Bath World Heritage Centre is right in the centre of Bath, near Bath Abbey. The entrance is in 10 York Street, Bath, BA1 1NH. See the VisitBath and VisitSomerset websites for more things to see and do in Bath.

By car

The quickest and most straightforward route if you are travelling from a distance is likely to be via the M5 and M4 approaching Bath from the north. You can then use the Lansdown Park and Ride. See the full Park and Ride services and Bath Car Park charges.

Disabled Badge Holders: There are parking bays for Blue Badge Holders in a number of locations in the city centre. Find out more on the Bath & North East Somerset Council website.

The Bath World Heritage app

Packed with fun features, trails, quirky facts and a GPS map, the Bath World Heritage app allows you to build bespoke itineraries based on your preferences.

When you visit a destination, you can collect augmented reality characters and stickers allowing you to take the ultimate selfie or create fun pictures with family and friends. You can also collect golden acorns that are located around the city, and reveal hidden gems.

The Bath World Heritage app can be downloaded from both the Apple store and Google Play store.

Volunteering

Are you passionate about the World Heritage City of Bath? Do you have hours to spare?

The brand new Bath World Heritage Centre, open seven days a week in central Bath, is looking for volunteers aged 18+ to help in the Centre and offer visitors a friendly welcome to Bath. In particular we are keen to hear from people who may like to volunteer at weekends.

Volunteering shifts are 3 hours in length, and can be flexible to suit your personal commitments. Full training and uniform will be provided.
